The neck contains a total of nine organ systems, some of which, if injured, can lead to rapid and devastating clinical decline. Given these vital structures, neck trauma requires rapid evaluation and prompt intervention. The mechanism of injury resulting in neck trauma is broadly divided into blunt or penetrating. As with all traumas, adhering to the principals of ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) is imperative; however, in neck trauma there is an emphasis on prompt assessment of the airway. Certain overt signs or symptoms suggest severe injury that should prompt immediate surgical exploration. In less acute scenarios, computed tomography (CT) angiography plays an important role in early management.

摘要
