AI-based networks constitute a pivotal and timely research area, driven by the technical requirements of 6G and future wireless communication systems. This chapter first outlines the motivations for AI-enhanced 6G technologies, following a concise overview of 6G’s performance requirements and capacity benchmarks. We then introduce core concepts and application paradigms for both AI for network (AI4NET) and network for AI (NET4AI), concluding with a clear articulation of the monograph’s objectives.
