The Role of the General Dental Practitioner in Temporomandibular Disorders

Temporomandibular disorder is the most common persistent orofacial pain condition and as such will form a routine component of a general dental practitioner’s clinical practice. The role of a general dental practitioner will vary between cases and will be subject to change over the course of the individual’s condition. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the requirements of a general dental practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorder.
