Introduction
摘要
All dental clinicians will have patients who are suffering from temporomandibular disorders [TMD]; however not all of those patients will be appropriately diagnosed. This leads to undertreatment and inappropriate treatment provision for this important group of conditions. This is, in part, due to a lack of an examination protocol that is suitable for primary care. The chapters in this book will highlight the crucial role of primary care dental clinicians in assessment and management of TMD. We provide an examination protocol together with clear guidance for the differential diagnoses within TMD. In addition, the book will suggest how these conditions can best be managed, with case histories to illustrate appropriate individualised management options. A comprehensive summary of current surgical interventions for TMD is included which will be of interest to both primary care dental clinicians and essential reading for dentists in training posts for oral surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
