Implications for Lifelong Music Participation
摘要
The overwhelming evidence on the benefits music participation leaves little room to negate the importance and value of lifelong music participation for older adults. Based on the findings of the cross-case synthesis, this chapter includes implications relevant to older adults’ music participation in support of their quality of life. The most important implication is that everyone should help older adults to join and maintain group activities, especially music groups because of their tremendous capability to benefit participants. There is a need to systematically disseminate information about the groups and their benefits. More activity options should be available to meet the needs of the older population with a wide range of abilities, musical interests, and individual differences. More avenues should be available for participants to contribute to the community. It would be beneficial if the older adults and their carers could develop conflict resolution skills to help maintain healthy interpersonal interactions among group members. These recommendations, in whole or in part, can be applicable far beyond the locales of the cases being studied.
