Advanced Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Smart Cities

In this chapter, the use of smart technologies that help implement advanced artificial intelligence (AI) in smart cities is discussed, which is one of the significant steps towards creating sustainable urban development through better analytical activities and decision-support systems. Machine learning and deep learning techniques are being introduced in data analysis to aid the processes in urban development. It involves models that are intelligent and used for making predictions for maintenance and keeping track of useful data. Finally, smart cities are applying AI for the supervision and control of environmental resources. Sensors for collecting data on the quality of air and water are also adopted and integrated with AI to employ deep learning in the prevention and remediation of unhealthy urban living conditions. The intelligent cities are also growing forward with enhanced Explainable AI, making it safe to use AI results in making decisions. This is especially essential for cities that are keen on achieving sustainable development, meeting the needs of the residents. However, it is important to focus on some of the open research issues and opportunities of the field. It is vital to work on these issues in the further development of smart and wise cities, which are important for intelligent growth.
