Innovative Solutions for Smart Cities with Internet of Things

In this chapter, we discussed the integration of smart cities with IoT technologies. They offer new approaches that optimizeurban life in several ways. The emergence of new-generation IoT networks and the implementation of 5G offers low latency, which is crucial for applications that employ real-time operation. The application of IoT in urban mobility, resource management, remote tracking systems for air and water quality, smart waste management, and energy grids help to make systems of cities more efficient and sustainable. To execute secure transactions, other methods such as privacy - preserving data are needed, and that requires technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence. Interoperability as well as scalability remain major issues with IoT systems, and therefore, proper protocols and edge computing should be established to address large-scale implementations. Policy, security, and integration are crucial factors for a coherent IoT environment in terms of devices. Future directions of IoT technology include the combination of the IoT with augmented reality and health, autonomous IoT devices, and self-governing networks. These developments provide a sense of possibility for better living in urban environments but also create new research opportunities, like compatibility issues and security threats.
