摘要
This research conducted as a qualitative study explored in depth the experiences of school leaders working with rural and Indigenous schools in northern Mexico. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight school leaders and their school supervisor. Five of the school leaders work in rural schools with non-Indigenous students and three of them in rural schools with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. The supervisor is responsible for all schools. Three themes emerged as findings from the data after the coding process: (a) leadership in rural schools is influenced by its context, (b) a limited access to connectivity influences leadership and the general functioning of the school, and (c) leadership in rural communities is highly influenced by interpersonal relationships. The research concludes that contextual realities happening in rural communities; and at personal level, the type of relationships they form with members of the communities and their colleagues have an impact on their work as school leaders in rural communities.
