In this chapter, we introduce the key question that will be explored in this thesis—What is the massless limit of massive gauge theories? By working out a few simple examples, we will introduce the basic notions such as the degrees of freedom and the principle of continuity. Then, we discuss why the massive gauge fields have left the theorists puzzled, whether such theories can be relevant to the observations, and finally, introduce the goal of this thesis.

摘要
