Soil salinity seriously threatens global agriculture, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, as it negatively affects crop performance and overall land productivity. This chapter explores the vital role of managing soil physical properties to mitigate soil salinity. It begins by defining soil salinity and identifying key soil physical characteristics such as soil structure, porosity, water infiltration, hydraulic conductivity, and drainage, followed by examining their complex relationships with salt accumulation and movement. In addition, this chapter reviews various agricultural management practices aimed at improving these physical properties in saline soils, including conservation tillage, deep plowing, gypsum application, cover cropping, mulching, and laser land leveling. By evaluating the effectiveness of these methods under different environmental conditions and soil types, both in the short- and long-term, the chapter compiles findings from previous research and emphasizes that optimizing specific physical properties of the soil can significantly reduce salinity, thereby improving soil health and agricultural productivity.

摘要
