Nurses frequently work in shift patterns, including day, evening, and night shifts, which can disrupt circadian rhythms, leading to sleep disturbances and decreased alertness. Although research suggests that proper lighting can enhance circadian regulation, it has been underutilized in shift work interventions. This study assessed the lighting conditions in 13 nurses' stations and surveyed 138 nurses regarding sleep quality, fatigue, emotional state, and lighting satisfaction. Results indicated that horizontal illuminance in nurses' stations was generally inadequate, with insufficient physiological equivalent illuminance during the day and excessive levels at night. The survey revealed that 44.93% of nurses reported poor sleep quality, and 74.64% experienced shift-related sleep problems, particularly after night and evening shifts. Additionally, 40.58% exhibited anxiety symptoms, and 63.77% showed signs of depression. Fatigue levels averaged 38.70 ± 12.62, peaking during specific hours. Implementing LED lighting control technology to create dynamic lighting patterns that align with shift work is crucial for improving nurses' sleep rhythms, alertness, and overall well-being.
