Comparative Study and Analysis of Blast Furnace and Direct Reduction Process in V-Ti Magnetite Smelting

This paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of three technological processes, namely the modern blast furnace process, the coal-based rotary kiln direct reduction process, and the gas-based shaft furnace direct reduction process, in the smelting of vanadium-titanium magnetite, in combination with the given raw material and fuel conditions. Three technical processes are compared from multiple aspects such as resource utilization, energy utilization, technical feasibility, product economy, and production risks. Through comparative research, it is found that, based on the current production and industrial practice level of V-Ti magnetite smelting, compared with the coal-based rotary kiln direct reduction and gas-based shaft furnace direct reduction processes, the blast furnace process shows significant strength in terms of production capacity, raw material utilization rate, energy utilization, technical reliability, investment, and process cost. In the future, more attention should be paid to the research field of low-carbon blast furnace in V-Ti magnetite smelting, so as to not only solve the carbon emission problem of the blast furnace process but also give full play to the advantages of high economy and strong competitiveness of the blast furnace. The advantages of the direct reduction process in environmental protection should arouse more concern and emphasis. When it comes to specific projects, the right smelting process should be chosen based on local circumstances, considering not only the actual raw material and fuel conditions but also the relevant policies.
