Research on gender equality in disaster prevention and resilience remains underdeveloped, particularly in the context of Japan—a country frequently impacted by natural disasters. This chapter delves into climate crises and disaster reduction through the lens of gender equality and inclusion, analyzing the shifts in disaster management practices post the Great Hanshin Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake. Utilizing databases such as Web of Science and ScienceDirect, this study systematically reviews scholarly articles to elucidate the roles of women in disaster prevention, mitigation, and post-disaster reconstruction. It highlights the evolving understanding of gender dynamics in disaster scenarios and examines the achievements and challenges of integrating gender perspectives in Japan’s disaster management frameworks.
