Conclusion: Psychedelic Shamans
摘要
This chapter offers a brief summary of the main findings of part 2. It recaps the threefold typology of ayahuasca retreat observed in Iquitos, and reiterates the multifaceted nature of touristic motivation for pursuing ayahuasca 'shamanism'. The Medicine, The Shaman, and Mother Ayahuasca are again discussed as the key narrative conjurations of touristic actors, with the dynamic opportunism of local actors illustrating the capture and recycling of these same conjurations for material gain. The chapter concludes by highlighting the tension between the reverence and essentialising of indigenous 'shamanism' practitioners.
