Privacy is not a security requirement, but the right to be left alone. The privacy rights are, however, the primary source of security requirements. Notably, the privacy rights of corporations and governments often trump the privacy rights of individuals. For instance, the terms-of-service agreements and the intellectual property statutes usually implement significant privacy protocols, favoring the service providers. Privacy protocols are built upon the toolkits of security protocols, just like security protocols are built upon the toolkits of cryptographic primitives. But just like security protocols can often be broken without breaking the underlying cryptography, privacy protocols can often be broken without breaking the underlying security.

摘要
