Motionless Dislocation Studied by Simulations: The Phase Diagram
摘要
This chapter addresses the process zone at a stationary edge dislocation, which we investigated through simulations. For the dislocation case, we applied the same methodology as previously described for the crack. We begin with an analysis of the daughter-phase zone embedded in the mother-phase matrix and obtain its dimensionless free energy from simulations. This enables us to establish the local binodal and upper spinodal, which govern the emergence of the first-order process zone. We then turn to the mother-phase zone embedded in the daughter-phase matrix and conclude by constructing a phase diagram that delineates the domain of existence for both process zones against the backdrop of the bulk phase diagram. In line with predictions for the quasi-soft case, our results confirm that the process zone is confined to a specific finite region of the phase diagram (Boulbitch and Korzhenevskii, First published here).
