Open-Source Framework for Advancing Data-Driven Digital Human Modelling
摘要
Open-source digital human modelling (DHM) software has emerged as an alternative to expensive and often complex industrial DHM systems. Such software normally provides a programming interface to customize human data management. They are an ideal tool to maximize sharing and enable the integration of data facilitating DHM continuous development and exploiting human simulations for a wide variety of applications and industries. Nowadays, adapting products and environments to new markets is challenging due to anthropometric differences in the target population. Incorporating experimental real-world data into open-source environments facilitate tailored assessments for a population group and the personalization of individual subjects such as, the working staff of a company. This work aims to develop parametrically anatomically correct DHMs based on real-world data within an open-source 3D suite as a working environment. The 3D suite integrates data from various disciplines and acquisition systems, such as accurate external body dimensions (3D/4D body scans), joint range of motion, postural and motion data (e.g. inertial markers, photogrammetry or markerless systems), including diverse populations. Beyond data integration, the suite enables the calculation of new metrics from existing data laying the groundwork for further research in this field. Finally, an advantage of this approach is the ease of implementing algorithms for design assessments, such as inverse kinematic (IK) chains, limb grips or line-of-sight controllers. A case study was conducted to analyze human-environment interactions. Different DHMs were generated to validate posture, motion, and interaction with products, eliminating the need for physical prototypes.
