Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and end-stage renal disease, complicating kidney transplantation (KT) eligibility. Therefore, addressing obesity in KT candidates improves graft success and long-term patient health. Moreover, bariatric surgery is a proven intervention for weight loss and can be integrated into KT care before, during, or after transplantation, depending on clinical condition. Sleeve gastrectomy is the preferred procedure for its compatibility with immunosuppressive therapy, excellent weight loss outcomes, and lower morbidity.

摘要

Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and end-stage renal disease, complicating kidney transplantation (KT) eligibility. Therefore, addressing obesity in KT candidates improves graft success and long-term patient health. Moreover, bariatric surgery is a proven intervention for weight loss and can be integrated into KT care before, during, or after transplantation, depending on clinical condition. Sleeve gastrectomy is the preferred procedure for its compatibility with immunosuppressive therapy, excellent weight loss outcomes, and lower morbidity.
