Multiplayer games are generally popular due to their more social and competitive gameplay experience. Serious games are a category of games used to educate and engage users. If made to be repurposable, serious games can also cater to various learning contexts with minimal modifications. Considering the above findings, we performed an exploratory study with a repurposable, anchor-driven multiplayer serious game ‘Capture It’. In this study with 358 participants, the team-based game was used to assess the cybersecurity awareness levels of enterprise participants using a competitive ask-and-answer method. Every correct answer lets the team capture parts of a virtual territory. Here, we also tested the influence of a pre-game quiz on the in-game performance of the teams. Our findings indicate a positive impact of the pre-game quiz on participants’ in-game performance. We share our results and a broader scope of the game to guide future research in this domain.

摘要
