Our Road Map for Developing Primary Refugee Students’ Spatial Skills
摘要
This chapter highlights the critical importance of spatial literacy in education, disaster response, and community resilience, particularly emphasizing its role in refugee contexts and disaster-prone regions. Spatial reasoning skills enhance academic performance, cultural adaptation, and problem-solving abilities, empowering students to navigate complex environments. The chapter examines real-world examples, such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 6 February 2023 Türkiye earthquake, to underscore the life-saving potential of spatial tools. In Haiti, mapping and data visualization optimized resource distribution and emergency response, ensuring aid reached vulnerable populations. For refugee students, spatial literacy aids in navigating unfamiliar urban landscapes, accessing essential services, and fostering social integration. Innovative programs, including participatory mapping, STEM-based activities, and virtual reality simulations, demonstrate the potential of spatial learning to address diverse challenges. Ultimately, the chapter argues for integrating spatial skills into education and disaster management systems to build resilient communities and sustainable futures.
