This chapter centers the insights and visions for change articulated by Black NASCAR fans, offering a grounded analysis of how those most impacted by the sport’s racialized geographies understand and seek to transform its culture. Through participant reflections, the chapter identifies the limitations of NASCAR’s symbolic gestures and public relations campaigns, arguing that superficial expressions of diversity are insufficient for achieving genuine racial equity. It is in this vein that participants argue that for NASCAR to progress and break its racialized stigma within the Black imagination, they need to (a) transform aspects of their culture to be more inclusive and (b) endeavor to intentionally listen to, engage with, and understand the communities (and associated issues pertinent to these communities) from which their Black fans derive. By centering Black fan assessments and proposals, the chapter reframes fandom not only as a site of affective investment, but as a platform for cultural critique and strategic visioning.
