This chapter discusses the key tenets of a street psychiatry team including communication and supervision, role clarity, shared goals and vision, team leadership, burnout prevention, and ongoing evaluation. It explores medical directives as an opportunity for a street psychiatry team to be able to utilize nurses in an advanced role to meet the needs of patients living on the streets. It also explores how street psychiatry teams have been funded previously, exploring two real-life examples and how street psychiatry teams have partnered with local universities and teaching hospitals to help leverage teaching opportunities with psychiatry residents and nursing students. The chapter concludes with the importance that advocacy plays in the works that street psychiatry teams do and how working with peer support workers improves street psychiatry’s teams’ ability to engage with patients living on the streets.
