Industry often requests training courses from academia, or encourages its employees to participate to workshops and conferences organized by academia. Conversely, academia occasionally delegates the teaching of some master courses to industrial experts. Although the selected industrial experts may be recognized trainers in their industrial domains, they will most certainly face a number of challenges related to the course adaptation to academia. This paper presents six challenges that industrial experts will need to cope with when adapting their courses from industry to academia. The challenges are illustrated using a cybersecurity risk management course that was adapted from an industrial training in a big size French company to an European Erasmus Mundus master degree in cybersecurity. The paper proposes a number of guideline solutions for each of those challenges, and assesses the solutions validity through feedback collected during three consecutive years from master 1 students. The student assessment challenge is highlighted as a key topic to be carefully addressed due to its novelty for an industry subject-matter expert, and due to its major impact on student engagement.
