This chapter explores a broad range of philosophical questions surrounding birth as a transformative experience for the birthing person. It also examines how birth can be a transformative experience for the birthing person, the philosopher, and the field of philosophy itself. Ultimately, it suggests that engaging with the philosophy of birth—understanding what the notion of birth means and what it brings to philosophy—can be a transformative experience. In this way, it presents the philosophy of birth as a transformative philosophy. First, the chapter begins with a testimony and its analysis. The testimony frames the experience of birth as a threshold, setting the stage for the subsequent themes. The analysis highlights some of the ways in which birth can be a transformative experience. Second, the chapter argues that practicing the philosophy of birth is inherently engaging in transformative philosophy. Third, it outlines how the author has attempted to develop a philosophy of birth as a transformative philosophy. The author believes this text exemplifies why engaging with the philosophy of birth constitutes transformative philosophy. However, due to its foundation in such a personal experience, the chapter remains inherently personal, resisting generalization.

摘要
