In this study, I discuss the various features and merits that characterize Axel Honneth’s systematic reading and appropriation of Hegel’s philosophy. The Hegelian notion of recognition –which Honneth has sought with great success to rehabilitate– has a counterpart that, in my understanding, is conceptually significant and should be taken more emphatically into account by contemporary theories: the notion of reconciliation. From this premise, I examine different stages of Hegel’s philosophy to demonstrate how the project of recognition must also accommodate the reestablishment of ethical ties between actors where harm or damage has occurred. Ultimately, I argue for a strong interconnection and interdependence between recognition and reconciliation, making this thesis a central focus for theories aiming to revive the Hegelian project.

A Necessary Complement to the Notion of Recognition? Hegelian Reflections on Reconciliation

摘要
