The problem we face today, as yesterday, is that philosophy has been ruptured between an existentialistic spirituality and a materialistic rationality. Science has become the authoritative source of all worldly meaning, without the means or mandate to be such, and has replaced philosophy which has been reduced to a fag-end of subjective human feelings. Hegel rightly describes this situation as a kind of “suicide.” By contrast, Aristotle philosophically locates human beings in nature as the prime movers of any scientific or philosophical envisioning of the world. Science is as much under the eye of philosophy and its metaphysics as anything else in the world. Through Aristotle, we join up the world again and give it meaning rather than just the technique of technology.
