This chapter introduces several of the leading early art dealer/adventurers who risked their money and their lives to travel the bandit-ridden roads of Europe to hunt for treasures to bring back to London to sell. These individuals played a key role in establishing and maintaining the international liquidity art works and their capacity to store and transport value.
