Disinformation in Brazil: Overview and Responses
摘要
This chapter offers an overview of disinformation in Brazil and the initiatives implemented to contain it. Adopting a historical perspective, based on academic studies, press reports, and market research data, it examines the political, legal, and media factors shaping this dynamic between 1995 and 2024. The analysis covers both pre- and post-social media eras, emphasizing the role of messaging applications in the evolution of disinformation practices. It also addresses the country’s me-dia literacy efforts, the emergence of fact-checking agencies, and the legislative debates on the anti-fake news bill and amendments to the Brazilian Internet Civil Framework.
