The Botti worked in what was by then a globalised world that brought together different peoples and cultures, from the Far East to the Far West. They were fully immersed in that fluid, dynamic scenario. Goods of every kind travelled within this geographical framework. Their range of goods was particularly copious and grew even greater in number with the opening of the Atlantic routes. Cádiz, Seville and Valladolid were, along with Florence, the drivers of the business group’s activity, vantage points from which they could observe the flow of business without losing sight of new opportunities. That said, they were also active individually and in partnerships in other important economic markets (Pisa, Venice, Rome, Antwerp, Lyon). Through their wide network of economic and social relationships, the Botti were able to create an important mercantile and financial system that also included lucrative intercultural trade. The fruit of their long, hard years of work left its mark and they accumulated vast wealth, which benefited both the Florence and the Spanish branches of the family. Great art collectors who had a lasting effect that is still felt today: the last heir of the Florentine branch left his riches to the Medici, for whom he had carried out numerous diplomatic missions.
