Evaluating Risk Factors in Pile Foundation Construction: A Bridge Project Perspective

This research tries to find out the effectiveness of risk management factors in pile foundation construction at bridge projects. Conclusively, it aims to uncover which of the risk factors has a significant effect on construction efficiency, hence coming up with recommendations that might be helpful in managing such risks. This is a mixed-method study, with quantitative data from the case studies of completed and ongoing bridge projects, while qualitative data were obtained through expert interviews and surveys. With that, the relationship of such variables as human resource management, material management, equipment management, schedule management, cost management, and occupational safety management, and interest versus their impacts on the outcomes of construction, was analyzed with the help of descriptive statistics, ANOVA testing, and regression analyses. The results show that the largest values are related to equipment management, material management, and cost management, hence contributing most to the effectiveness of construction. Precisely, regression analysis revealed that good equipment maintenance, good quality materials, and timely material supply are very important in preventing delay and cost overrun. Factors such as human resources management and schedule management, on the other hand, are crucial but clearly have a lower comparative impact. The results thus obtained imply that, even from the very commencement of the project, the contractor should pay more attention to optimizing equipment and material management and cost control in order to bring about improvement not only in the quality and efficiency of construction but also in competitiveness during large-scale bridge construction projects. The study suggests that future research should consider expanding the geographical scope and include other construction types to validate these findings more broadly.
