Unpacking the Choice: How Undergraduate Students Decide on a Rural Campus
摘要
This study investigates the factors influencing undergraduate student enrollment decisions at the Northern Iloilo State University - Batad Campus (NISU-Batad), a rural campus in the Philippines. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research explores the interplay of institutional, student-specific, and external factors in shaping these decisions. Findings reveal that the NISU website serves as the primary information source for prospective students, while personal interactions and social media also play significant roles. The decision to enroll is primarily influenced by course offerings, teaching quality, personal interest, affordability, institutional reputation, and family/friend recommendations. The study underscores the importance of a multi-faceted approach to recruitment and retention strategies, emphasizing the need for accessible information, strong academic programs, and a supportive campus environment to attract and retain students in rural settings.
