This study presents the development and testing process of a sustainable idea management approach through the creation and implementation of the game “Greenopoly.” Drawing upon an extensive literature review on sustainability elements, the authors identified critical factors for promoting sustainable innovation and organizational decision-making. These elements were integrated into the design of Greenopoly, a gamified platform that fosters creative, eco-friendly solutions and collaborative problem-solving. To assess the effectiveness of Greenopoly, a simulation case study was conducted and compared with a traditional brainstorming session without the game. Participants from diverse organizational backgrounds were involved in both settings. The results indicate that Greenopoly significantly outperforms traditional brainstorming regarding the quantity and quality of sustainable ideas generated and participant engagement and satisfaction. The gamified approach enhanced understanding of sustainability principles and facilitated a more structured and dynamic idea generation process. This suggests that gamification, as demonstrated by Greenopoly, can be a powerful tool for sustainable idea management, driving more innovative and impactful outcomes compared to conventional methods. The study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence on the advantages of gamification in sustainability-focused innovation management.
