WhatsApp is a very popular social media platform which through customised groups for sharing information makes it an effective means to provide higher quality of education in higher education. Undoubtedly higher educational institutes have other platforms to impart education. Yet, the versatility and popularity of WhatsApp have made it an efficient and effective means to innovate and disseminate educational tools. This paper compares and analyses the effectiveness of WhatsApp for two scenarios- one when a separate group is made for each course and the second when the common group is made for all courses of a programme by using a quasi-experimental design. The experiment was conducted at Ambalika Institute of Management and Technology, Lucknow over a year. The survey conducted using questionnaires for all the institutions based on convenience sampling showed mixed results for two scenarios. However, the study shows that WhatsApp moderates the learning process by focusing on the content, time and information dissemination.
