Advanced drone-based aerial transportation inside urban and sub-urban regions, known as urban air mobility (UAM), has emerged as a new public transportation idea in countries including Malaysia. Still, public acceptability has become a crucial concern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the benefits and challenges of UAM implementation in Malaysia’s Klang Valley from the perspective of drone practitioners, who were one of the affected stakeholders. This study used a qualitative research approach using unstructured interviews to obtain responses from seven drone practitioners. Thematic analysis revealed four major benefits (i.e., contribution to the country’s economic development, sustainable transport, efficient travel, and support service to other industries) and four main challenges (i.e., legislation readiness & compliance, perception of public safety, public belief & trust, and infrastructure readiness). Future research should explore further the UAM acceptance from multiple stakeholders to gain a more balanced perspective on UAM implementation.

摘要
