This concluding chapter synthesizes the book’s critical exploration of Sardinia’s militarization, contextualizing it within broader frameworks of coloniality, environmental justice, and resistance. It reflects on the island’s transformation into a hub for military activities, shaped by opaque decision-making processes, dependency, and exclusion. The chapter revisits key themes, including the role of “military servitudes” in perpetuating colonial practices, the environmental and social consequences of militarization, and the rise of resistance movements advocating for sovereignty, environmental justice, and local autonomy. Highlighting the evolution of grassroots movements—from the Pratobello uprising to the formation of A Foras—the chapter underscores the significance of collective resistance in challenging state and military narratives. It also explores the adaptability of these movements, evidenced by their engagement with global anti-base activism, mutual aid initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic, and critiques of recent energy transition projects seen as extensions of colonial environmentalism. Framed by the Future Lab methodology, the chapter envisions pathways for a sustainable and autonomous Sardinia, emphasizing the importance of inclusive dialogue, intergenerational engagement, and the reclamation of territorial sovereignty.
