The University of Sousse recognizes the need to transcend traditional academic roles and actively contribute to societal progress, aligning its strategic direction with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its “socially responsible university” initiative. This paper aims to assess the impact and outcomes of one of its main initiatives, the Volunteer Marathon (VM-USo), designed to foster a culture of sustainable development among students. The primary goal of VM-USo is to cultivate future responsible citizens who will engage in eco-responsible actions and drive positive change within their communities. Over a 42-day period, students and stakeholders from the University of Sousse and its 42 partners organized 42 activities that addressed the 17 SDGs. The paper examines the process of organizing these actions, the level of student engagement, and the effectiveness of these activities in promoting sustainability and social responsibility. Key activities included environmental clean-up days, workshops, discussions, and the celebration of The World Volunteer Day, where moderators were honored for their contributions. Through this analysis, the paper concludes that the VM-USo not only instilled a commitment to sustainable development in participants but also demonstrated the role universities can play in fostering long-term social responsibility.
