This chapter details the sustainable management practices implemented by the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), Brazil. The university’s commitment to sustainability has earned significant recognition, evidenced by its ranking as the 4th most sustainable institution in Brazil and 68th globally among 1,477 participants in the 2024 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. Central to these efforts is the UFMS Sustainability Policy, which established the UFMS Sustainable Program and aligns all institutional actions with the United Nations’ (UN) 2030 Agenda. The instruments of this program include plans for sustainable logistics and procurement, waste management, carbon neutrality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) monitoring across university projects and courses. To support these initiatives, UFMS has established a dedicated governance structure, including the Sustainability Board (Dides) and other specialized committees. The maturity of the UFMS sustainability model positions it as a replicable benchmark for other higher education institutions.
