Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia on the Path to Sustainability
摘要
Globalization has generated opportunities and challenges that affect the well-being of individuals and the environment. This study aims to evaluate the impact of promoting and implementing sustainable development policies within Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia’s institutional processes, crafting the policy and operational framework involved in developing instructive guidelines and reference manuals on environmental matters, which were disseminated throughout the university. Activities were executed and measured, aligning with national and international rankings that evaluated governance, education, research, management, and societal outreach. The environmental policy and action plan was approved, including eight strategic guidelines aligned to institutional objectives and sustainable development targets. Post-implementation, a carbon footprint of 1651 metric tons of CO2 equivalent was offset, 14,590 kilograms of recyclable materials were collected, and the second ECOFEST was held. Furthermore, the annual environmental calendar was disseminated, and over 300 trees were planted. The university climbed six positions in the 2022 MINAM ranking and advanced from 903rd in the 2020 UI GreenMetric ranking to 735th. In conclusion, the actions of promotion and implementation of sustainable development policies contributed to the improvement of the position of national and international rankings, strengthening the university’s reputation as a sustainable institution, however there are more opportunities for improvement.
