Implementing a Whole-Institution Approach (WIA) to Nurture Engaged Citizens for Sustainable Development in Thailand
摘要
After years of practices, Siam University has learnt that the most important key factor in achieving the 17 SDGs is nurturing citizens who have sufficiency mindset, sustainability key competences, and are actively engaged in SDGs-related initiatives. The whole-institution approach (WIA) is designed to transform the university with a new vision “Leading University Creating Innovation for Sustainable Future” and “Sustainable University, Sustainable Distract” strategy. Needed learning infrastructure is provided while relevant networks are mobilized and enhanced to facilitate mutual support for learning. Two models of learning for sustainability; the “Triangle of Living Learning Lab” and the “UPC4Local SDGs Action Model” were developed. Pedagogy and learning modes with emphasis on interdisciplinary approach, active learning, real-life experiences, and community engagement have been employed. It is hope that WIA will be succeeded in cultivating not only engaged citizens for sustainable development (SD) within the university (students and staff) but also engaged citizens in the communities which serve as our social living labs. In 2023, we were ranked top 6 with the highest score in “Education for Sustainability” among Thai Universities and top Thai private university in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
