This paper address a mission and approaches to achieve the net-zero emissions in college campus of National Chung Hsing University (NCHU). NCHU, located in central TAIWAN ( https://goo.gl/maps/4frgP3ndLEfBtgwH7 ), has set Net-zero emission goals, developing smart green campuses in the short-term, all-green campuses in the medium-term, and sustainable development campuses in the long-term. A Sustainable Development Promotion Committee and a Sustainable Development Office were established under the supervision of the NCHU principal in September 2022. The promotion approaches include three parts: university governance, university social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. The core of technology development is environmental sustainability which covers promoting the strategies in energy-saving and carbon-reduction measures, comprehensive introduction of active energy-saving actions, and promotion of innovative technology development for carbon sink enhancement. Four strategies for net zero emissions have been formulated, including base-year setting and emission source identification, forest and soil carbon sink investigation, continuous environmental governance, and innovative planning. In 2025, Xixinba Livestock Farm ( https://goo.gl/maps/et9oiE5q2DBun9CRA ) in NCHU is expected to be the first demo site in TAIWAN to reach 100% net zero carbon emissions, and the university vows to reach the ultimate goal of net zero emission in 2040.
