For over two decades, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas has been adopting best practices directed towards ecological stewardship by institutionalizing its commitment to sustainability through the creation of comprehensive programs aligned or realigned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and Pope Francis ‘Laudato Si’ Encyclical. “Sustainable DLSU-D: Making Green Greener” was inspired by the school color green and the sustainability mindset that the University attempts to imprint among Lasallians. This concept started as a tagline, eventually becoming the university framework for sustainable development. The program is an all-encompassing approach that covers all aspects of the University’s operations centering on the trifocal approach: policy, process, and people. This covers DLSU-D’s comprehensive income-generating Materials Recovery Facility and effective segregation program, curriculum integration, an award-winning Project Carbon Neutral-Black Out Green In campaign, tree planting initiatives through De La Salle Philippines’ One Million Trees and Beyond Project, sustainability-focused research, resource conservation and green technology, internal and external partnerships, effective use of green spaces, and biodiversity conservation and climate action. With the signing of the Nature Positive pledge in 2022, and the UN SDG Accord in 2020, and IALU Laudato Si’ Journey in 2021, DLSU-D’s quest for its commitment to mold citizens of the world remains steadfast through education, policy, and practice.
