In this chapter, the authors present the importance and areas of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at higher education institutions in theory and with the example of a case, the Budapest University of Economics and Business (BUEB). Recognising that the main societal impact and responsibilities of BUEB lie in education and raising awareness among future business leaders and managers, an in-depth institution development process and strategy has been initiated, including ESD. The curricula of each program were revised, and new courses were implemented, incorporating information on responsible attitudes and behaviour to almost 20,000 students at BUEB. Furthermore, the certified volunteering activities of students are acknowledged as an elective course. Sustainability-related research has become one of BUEB’s five focus areas of research activity. Regarding future endeavours, BUEB aims to acquire the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation to further enhance its value proposition for its students. These efforts have resulted in BUEB being declared a Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) champion in 2023. The authors present the initiatives of this complex institutional sustainability and ESD framework, the values and motivations behind them, and the results and impacts which have been achieved, outlining future development plans.

摘要
