Evaluating ESG Investment and Index Trends in India: Insights from Bloomberg and Investor Sentiment
摘要
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing is gaining importance in recent years, as investors are understanding the importance of making investments in areas that are beneficial to the environment. From the early years, investors prioritized return maximization, with less regard for the impact on planet Earth by the practices adopted by firms using shareholder funds. The purpose of this study is to understand the comparison between traditional indices like Nifty 50 and Sensex with ESG-focused indices such as Nifty 100 ESG Index and BSE 100 ESG Index. The indices of the two main stock exchanges of India are considered, which are the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Furthermore, the bifurcation of small and mid-cap of the traditional indices within these stock exchanges will help us gain a deeper understanding of the investment opportunities and how ESG investments are performing with respect to the traditional investment avenues. Bloomberg data will be used to analyse the risk-reward profile of ESG-focused investments in India. An analysis of investor sentiment will also be conducted to understand investors’ perspectives on ESG investments and to assess whether their investment met their expectations. The data for research will be based on a 4-year time horizon from 1st January 2021 to 1st January 2025 to better understand recent trends.
