Commentary by Paul J. Werbos How Can We Ever Understand How the Brain Works?
摘要
The title of this chapter, requested by Walter Freeman himself, has become even more important and timely than it was for the first edition. Walter Freeman and Karl PribramPribram were the two greatest unifying thought leaders then, building up that part of systems neuroscience essential to the larger visionVision of cognitiveOptimization optimizationCognitive optimization and predictionPrediction (COPN) which I led at NSF in that decade (NSF (2007) National Science Foundation, Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation 2008, http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2007/nsf07579/nsf07579.pdf .). Walter intended this book to bring together all the key elements needed to be developed further and integrated, in order to fulfill his visionVision of systems neuroscience and the larger visionVision of COPN.
