Epochal Moments of Television in South Africa: A Diachronic and Synchronic Reflection
摘要
This final chapter touches on defining moments that characterised the development of television over the past 50 years of its operation in South Africa. It essentially approaches the development of television in South Africa from a reflective practice approach based on the exploration of literature and the author’s own experience and involvement with the medium as a television practitioner and academic. This chapter wraps up the key essence of the compendium of the 50 years of television in South Africa by critically highlighting key phases of the evolution of television in South Africa. This approach is appropriate in painting broad strokes of epochal moments of the beloved medium of sight in the country since the current book is the first to look specifically at the medium of television in South Africa in the last 50 years of its inception in the country. This is also relevant because the editors of this volume, Prof Sisanda Nkoala and I, are pracademics, and we both bring industry and academic experience to our work, which is illustrated in the corpus of our published works. Hence, we sought to celebrate the 50 years of television in South Africa by bringing together practitioners and academics to offer their critical reflections.
