摘要
This chapter grapples with the endeavour to bring to the fore the impact of South African Television in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region with specific reference to the Zimbabwean situation. The analysis focuses on Zimbabweans’ use of South African television stations’ jargon on social media. Lingo from various television stations was consequently used to examine the impact of South African Broadcasting Services in the SADC region. The goal of this chapter is to show that South African broadcasting is impacting ordinary people in the SADC region, particularly Zimbabwe. Using the Discourse Analysis theory and the qualitative methodology to gather and analyse data, the chapter analyses words and popular statements that Zimbabweans use as social media to demonstrate the extent to which South African television has impacted the lives of the Zimbabwean population. The chapter unravelled that South African channels have an impact on the linguistics and social life of the Zimbabwean population.
