This chapter aims to delineate the concepts of digitalisation, ethics, and sustainability to give preliminary insights into these concepts. Using a review of extant literature, the chapter creates an understanding of the concepts of digitalisation, ethics, and sustainability as they relate to the objective of this book. It was noted that the fourth industrial revolution represents a significant transformation in manufacturing and production, building upon earlier industrial revolutions. This industrial revolution integrates emerging technologies like the IoT, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and robotics to enhance efficiency and innovation across various sectors, including construction, allowing for smart systems that adapt independently. Digitalisation was noted as a key driver of this industrial revolution. It was also observed that ethics covers moral principles that guide human behaviour, influencing decisions across various professions. From the digitalisation perspective, the rise of emerging digital technologies necessitates a focus on both professional ethics and the ethics of technology. The difference between these two concepts lies in the fact that the ethics of technology address practical issues linked to technological advancements, including fairness, privacy, and security. Finally, it was noted that for a sustained construction digitalisation, ethical use of digital technologies in a way that promotes social responsibility, economic prosperity, and environmental stewardship is essential.
