Assessing the Effectiveness of Mobile Applications in Managing Salt Intake: A Comprehensive Literature Review

Mobile health (mHealth) applications have emerged as essential tools for managing chronic conditions such as hypertension (HTN) by facilitating dietary monitoring and promoting healthier behaviors. This literature review explores the role of mHealth apps in reducing salt intake, a key factor in managing HTN and cardiovascular disease (CVD). While mHealth interventions show potential in raising awareness and promoting behavior change, their efficacy is often limited by short follow-up periods and inadequate control groups. Advances in algorithms of artificial intelligence (AI) offer opportunities for improving the personalization and accuracy of these apps. However, challenges such as data privacy, variability in app-based estimates, and the need for robust clinical trials remain. Future research should focus on long-term studies to assess the sustainability and scalability of these interventions in reducing CVD globally.
