This paper aims to present a review of the current literature on farmer training programs and interdisciplinary triage for food security workforce capacity building with emphasis on Qatar and comparable environments. These regions experience coma agricultural operations because of scarce water, unfavorable conditions for farming, and poor production as most of them depend on imported foods, hence realizing the importance of food security in their development plans. Indeed, in Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3), improved local agricultural productivity and sustainability are emphasized. Self-development training is important in the realization of these goals, especially in ensuring that the human capital in agricultural practices is professionally empowered with new knowledge and self-skill incorporation in modern practices in farming. Previous literature reviews show the need to use language in training given the complexity of Qatar’s agricultural labor force which is comprised of people from countries like Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. Training with material in multiple languages enables cross-barriers and enhances understanding of new cultivation technologies. Apart from language-related interventions, the current major development has been interdisciplinary micro-credentialing as a way of building workforce resilience. From the information acquired from disciplines like environmental science, economics, and technology, the micro-credentials provide a coherent model of acquiring specific competencies that might be required to solve dynamic agricultural problems. Studies for other desert areas like Jordan and Egypt reveal that subjects like interdisciplinary training resulted in a remarkable increase in both output and water utilization. These programs are essential for enhancing crop yields and making agri-food systems more climate resilient—a critical need given the climate change risks confronting food systems across the region.
