Emerging infectious diseases are a serious threat to biodiversity and are responsible for severe declines in amphibian populations worldwide. The Andean region is home to over 1000 amphibian species, including frogs, salamanders, and caecilians. In this chapter, based on an exhaustive literature review, we compiled existing information on the pathogens detected in the region, from the best known such as Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Ranavirus to others less explored. We show that overall, this region has been undersampled for amphibian diseases with significant geographical gaps present even for Bd research. Other bacterial and parasitic diseases are mostly orphaned in the region, yet the few existing records suggest they are present in the area. We propose future actions that will fill research gaps persisting in the area including more standardized sampling and reporting of amphibian diseases and advocate strongly toward making complete datasets open and accessible.
